Abduljavod (Javod)

Biography

Abduljavod was one of the poets active in the Kokand literary circle in the first half of the 19th century. His given name was Abduljavod and his pen name Javod. He lived and wrote under the Kokand khanate and belonged to the zullisonayn — the bilingual poets who composed in both Uzbek and Persian. His name is recorded in Fazliy Namangoniy's tazkira 'Majmuat ush-shuaro' among the representatives of the Kokand literary circle. Unfortunately neither an account of Javod's life nor the greater part of his poetry has come down to us, and there is at present no record of a complete divan or any reliably attributed body of his verse having been published.
