Biography

Sayyid Roziykhon To'ra (in some sources referred to as Sayyid Roziykhon To'ra Nola) is recorded as one of the classical 19th-century poets belonging to the literary circle of Kokand. He was among the learned, poetry-loving men of letters of his day. Sayyid Roziykhon To'ra wrote within the traditions of classical Uzbek literature, composing ghazals and lyric verse. His works reflect love, human virtue, ethics and the transience of life. His name is mentioned among the other poets of the Kokand milieu in connection with the era of such figures as Amiriy, Fazliy, G'ulxaniy and Nodira. Although his literary legacy has not survived in full, his name appears in a number of tazkiras and literary sources. Some accounts give 1846 as the year of Nola's death; because information about his life and work is limited, the date is not consistent across the sources.
