Biography

Xo'ja Taslim (pen name Taslim) is counted among the classical poets who lived and wrote in the Kokand literary circle in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. What is known of him comes mainly from tazkiras and literary sources; no detailed account of his life survives. He is named among the poets who took part in the literary assemblies of Umarkhan's time. There is no reliable historical record of his dates of birth and death, nor of his birthplace. Taslim wrote in the traditional genres of classical poetry — the ghazal, the muhammas and others — and his verse takes up love and affection, human virtues, ethics and good conduct, and Sufi ideas. Unfortunately no separate divan of his has yet been found: only a few of his poems and brief notices about him have come down to us.
