Husaynxo'ja Xijlat

Biography

Husaynxo'ja Xijlat (pen name Xijlat) was one of the poets active in the Kokand literary circle in the early 19th century. His name is mentioned in Fazliy Namangoniy's tazkira “Majmuat ush-shuaro” among the representatives of the Kokand milieu. He was among the poets who took part in the literary gatherings and poetic contests of Amir Umarkhan's time. He lived in the first half of the 19th century and wrote in the traditions of Uzbek classical poetry, in the ghazal and other forms. Very little detailed information about his life and work has reached us; regrettably, no reliably attributed poems of Husaynxo'ja Xijlat survive in present editions or have been published in the public domain. For that reason his literary legacy is known for now chiefly through the notices in the tazkiras.
