Biography
Ahror (real name Mulla Ahror Muhammad o'g'li; 19th century) was one of the gifted figures of the Kokand literary circle, a writer of ghazals. He was active in the literary life of the Kokand Khanate in the 19th century; living in the same era as the great democratic poets Muqimiy, Furqat and Zavqiy, he drew on their literary traditions. What has come down to us from him is chiefly ghazals, muhammas and ruba'is; he wrote prolifically in Uzbek and in Persian. The central themes of classical Eastern poetry — true feelings of love, fidelity, the pain of separation and social and moral reflection — lead in Ahror's work. His poems stand out for their simple, fluent language, their wealth of sincere feeling and their musicality. Ahror also wrote fine tatabbu' (responses in the same form) and muhammas on the ghazals of Alisher Navoiy and Fuzuliy.
