Hasrat (Mirzo Yo'ldosh)
Biography
Hasrat — his given name was Mirzo Yo'ldosh — was one of the Kokand poets of the late 19th and early 20th century, known for the sincerity and the pain of his ghazals. He belonged to the Kokand literary circle at the turn of the 20th century. The pen name 'Hasrat' ('sorrow, longing') answers to the melancholy of his poetry, to the hardships of his life and to the grief of unanswered love. He wrote chiefly in the traditions of classical Eastern literature, and above all in the ghazal and the murabba'. The experiences of love, complaint against fate and Sufi meanings dominate his work. Like the other poets of the Kokand circle, he carried on the traditions of Navoiy and Fuzuliy.
