Ziyoxo'ja (Haziniy Xo'qandiy)
Biography
The best-known bearer of the name Ziyoxo'ja in the Kokand literary circle was in fact Ziyovuddinxon, son of Kattaxo'ja: a distinguished poet, a figure of Sufism and a shaykh known as Haziniy Xo'qandiy. Among the people he was also honoured as “Haziniy to'ra” and “Eshonbuva”. He was born in 1867 in the village of Katta Kenagas near Kokand. He received his first learning from his father and then studied at the Jome' madrasa in Kokand, mastering the religious and secular sciences and the teachings of Sufism in depth. He was a shaykh of the Qadiriyya order. His literary legacy amounts to some 4,000 lines and consists of ghazals, murabbas, muhammas and musaddas. His works exalt mystical love, human purity, generosity and spiritual perfection.
