Mir Asad Ma'yus Khujandi
Biography
Mir Asad was a poet known in literature by the pen name Ma'yus of Khujand. He was born around 1785 or 1790 and died in 1870. He received his education in Khujand, then moved to Kokand and worked within the literary circle of the age of Amir Umarkhan. In his ghazals, mukhammas and other poetic works he gave artistic expression to love, fidelity, humaneness, moral virtue and the meaning of human life. Continuing the literary traditions of his time, Mir Asad Ma'yus wrote in the classical style and, as a worthy representative of the Kokand literary milieu, contributed to the development of classical Uzbek literature. Some of his poems have reached us through tazkiras and manuscript divans and are still being studied by literary scholars. In certain sources the name Mir Asad is also recorded under the pen name Afsus.

Meni bir ish uchun kim yaratibdur, Hanuz ul ish tamom bo'lmay turubdur. Tamom bo'lmaguncha hech o'lmagayman, Quloq solgil, senga bu so'z degayman. Ko'ngil har dam visoling orzusida zor erur, Hajring o'tida yonib, shabu ro'z afgor erur.
