Mirzo Latif (Latif)
Biography
Mirzo Latif was one of the poets of the Kokand literary circle in the first half of the 19th century, writing in the traditions of classical Turki and Persian letters. He lived and worked under the Kokand khan Amir Umarkhan (Amiriy) and his successors, and the sources name him alongside such well-known writers of the age as Koshif of Bukhara and Turobiy of Khorezm. The tazkiras record that he was one of those modest poets of qalandar temper who kept some distance from the court and the favour of the ruler and lived in want and hardship. His lyric work is rich in deep Sufi meanings and in social and philosophical reflection. Lyric ghazals, qasidas and qit'as take the leading place in his legacy, and his writing gives voice to the experience of love, to the faithlessness of the world and to gnostic ideas.

Yuzingiz gulzoridin gul tergali imkon qani, Bu ko'ngil sahrosida bir dardi bepoyon qani. Hajr aro yondim, tabibim, qil davoi dardi dil, Vaslingiz ko'yida jon bergali bir darmon qani. Aylading ko'z mardumin qon, ey pariruh, xat kelib, Bu Latif el ichra topg'ay, zarracha ehson qani.
