Mirzo Qalandar Mushrif
Biography
Mirzo Qalandar Mushrif (? — 1825) was a major poet, historian and scholar of the Kokand literary circle. His given name was Mirzo Qalandar and his pen name Mushrif. He studied in the madrasas of Kokand. From 1818 he served at Umarkhan's court as qozi of the army, and later, under Muhammad Alikhan, as qozi in Isfara. He wrote in Uzbek and Persian. In 1822, at Umarkhan's commission, he composed “Shohnoma-yi nusratpayom” (“The Shahnama that Brings News of Victory”), a work regarded as an important source for the history of the Kokand Khanate. Among the poems of Mushrif's that have come down to us, those written in the traditions of the classical ghazal hold a particular place.

Manga, ey bodi sabo, zulfi sumansodin gapur, Jon labimga yetdi, ul la'li shakarxodin gapur. Gul ila sunbul so'zini so'ylama, ey bog'bon, Manga gul ruhsor ila zulfi mujarraddin gapur. Bir kun ul mahvashni ko'rsang, bo'lma xomush, ey ko'ngul, Mushrifi devonai Majnunu shaydodin gapur.
