Eshon Zokirxo'ja Zokir
Biography
Eshon Zokirxo'ja Zokir was an accomplished poet, scholar and enlightened calligrapher who wrote within the Kokand literary circle in the late 19th and early 20th century. Zokirxo'ja was born in one of the villages near the city of Kokand. After receiving his first schooling at home, he made a deep study of Arabic and Persian, Islamic law, logic, literature and calligraphy in the madrasas of Kokand. He took an active part in the literary movement of the last years of the Kokand Khanate and the period that followed; he was in close contact with such prominent writers as Muqimiy, Furqat and Zavqiy and carried on their literary traditions. For his thorough learning his contemporaries called him, with respect, 'Eshon Zokirxo'ja'. He not only wrote poetry but also copied manuscript books, wrote commentaries on classical works and trained pupils. Sufi meaning and the ideals of human freedom, enlightenment and moral purity lead in his work. His ghazals stand out for the richness of their language and the sincerity of their feeling.

Ko'ngul mahrami dilbar bo'lmasa, holim parishondur, Dilingda dardi ishq o'lsa, bu jon ichra giryondur. Vafosiz charx dasti so'zlarim bag'rimni xun qildi, Ne g'am, gar yori bo-iymon manga har dam madadkordur. Zokir, umringni sarf etgil maorif yo'lida har vaqt, Ki ilm afzaldurur har molu dunyodin, bu ayondur.
