Anbar Otin (Farmonqul qizi)

Biography

Anbar Otin, daughter of Farmonqul (1870, Kokand — 1915), was an Uzbek poetess. Her father was a nephew of Uvaysiy, and her mother, Ashurbibi, was the daughter of a simple craftsman. She was educated at the school of Dilshod Otin. One of the notable poetesses of the 19th century, she compiled a divan from her 48 Uzbek poems, comprising 41 ghazals, 4 mukhammas, 1 qit'a, 1 masnavi and 1 mustazad (1905). In the early 1970s a further manuscript notebook of about 40 poems, her treatise “The Philosophy of the Downtrodden” (Qarolar falsafasi), and 160 lines of single couplets were discovered. She had intended to compile a divan of her Tajik ghazals as well, but its fate remains unknown.
