Zamiriy (Khaliljon Muhammad Rasul o'g'li)
Biography
Zamiriy was a poet born in Kokand into the family of a weaver-craftsman; his real name was Khaliljon Muhammad Rasul o'g'li. His temperament inclined to humour, and the droll poems he wrote in plain Uzbek with light, easy turns of phrase are still read with pleasure today. Satirical verse also occupies a substantial place in his legacy: among such works, written about the unscrupulous, are “Voy o'lay” (“Oh, I shall die”), “Sho'rim qursin” (“Woe is me”) and “Shuning uchun xotin olgim keladi” (“That is why I want to take a wife”). He spent the last years of his life in the city of Osh, where he died in 1922.
